The CH-101 Antarctic Observation Support Helicopter is an aircraft manufactured by Kawasaki Heavy Industries Ltd., under license, that is based on Leonardo’s AW-101 Helicopter which was jointly developed by Italy and the United Kingdom. The aircraft are dispatched with the Antarctic Expedition Vessel “Shirase” and support the Antarctic Observation Operation from the aspect of transportation.
The CH-101, which began operations in 2009, has one of the largest transport capacities for a single rotor helicopter, and it has received high marks for its advanced flight performance and safety.
As with the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force MCH-101 Helicopter, the CH-101 is based on the AW-101, and used for transporting goods and personnel between the Antarctic Expedition Vessel “Shirase” and Showa Station. As a distributor of Leonardo in Japan, our role is to support the operation of the CH-101 by supplying parts and components.
